In this article we will discuss cofounders of ethereum, and where are they now?
Ethereum is without any doubt one of the biggest cryptocurrency, smart contract and dapp development platform right now. When we talk about founding members of such a huge unicorn of crypto industry, we can only think of Vitalik Buterin. Ethereum was no doubt Vitalik’s brainchild, but it became as mature as it is today with right parenting done by right people. To your surprise, there were 8 founding members of Ethereum who made Ethereum, Ethereum.
Vitalik Buterin is the current acting co-founder of Ethereum. Ethereum was his brainchild which went through bunch of updates and iterations to become stronger and efficient. He first worked with Mastercoin team to make their project more generalized and efficient. But because Mastercoin had already done a lot of work on their project and they were not ready to go in the way Vitalik suggested. And soon, there was the first draft of Ethereum white paper as ‘Ethereum : The Ultimate Smart Contract and Autonomous Corporation Platform on the Blockchain’.
Gavin Wood is the former CTO and one of the Cofounders of Ethereum. He was the one who proposed Solidity, a smart contract writing language. He contacted Vitalik on about.me page and made Ethereum as a building programmable money platform. He is currently Founder, CTO, and Chairman of Parity Technologies who develops Client protocols to interact with Ethereum blockchain in an easy way. Gavin wood is the founder of Polkadot network as well, which has become one of the popular blockchain network in recent times.
Jeffrey Wilcke also joined around the same time as Gavin’s. He was the lead developer of Go client (Called ‘ethereal’ back then). His contributions were more on side of client development than protocol. Currently he is founder of Grid Games, a company he founded 7 months back in January 2018.
Charles worked as Chief Executive Officer of Ethereum for 6 months. He had Vitalik had a conflict of interest as keeping Ethereum a for-profit or non-profit organization. Soon he left Ethereum after 6 months and with Ethereum colleague Jeremy wood he started IOHK. IOHK’s key project is Cardano and it also runs Ethereum classic. Now, he works as the founder of Cardano and Chief advisor to Ethereum classic.
Anthony dedicated his funds and full attention to building a team to pursue Ethereum project after reading first white paper and became co-founder of Ethereum. Currently, he is founder of Decentral Inc. which has Jaxx wallet as its product. Jaxx is one of the most popular ERC20 wallets right now. In early 2013, he founded ‘Bitcoin alliance of Canada’ (Now ‘Blockchain Alliance’), and got elected as first executive director.
Joseph is one of the cofounders and Chief Operating Officer of Ethereum. He was involved in the creation of Ethereum foundation to ensure that Ethereum works in a decentralised and independent manner. Shortly after Ethereum, he also founded ConsenSys Systems which develops the decentralized applications and utilities for Ethereum. ConsenSys is one of the biggest Ethereum development companies. He currently works as Ethereum Co-founder and founder of ConsenSys.
Mihai was the founder of Bitcoin Magazine, a renowned Bitcoin and cryptocurrency media platform. He found Vitalik’s articles interesting and approached him to co-found the Bitcoin Magazine. Later when Vitalik came up with Ethereum idea, he served as Chief Innovation Officer of Ethereum and Vice president of Ethereum Foundation. Currently, he is deeply involved with his project AKASHA, a decentralized social media network. He also serves as Advisor to the Aragon project.
Before Ethereum, Vitalik has worked with Amir on a project called colored coins in Israel. When he came up with Ethereum, Vitalik called Amir on board to help with Ethereum. Now, Amir works as Head of Alchemist Israel at Alchemist, which backed Ethereum in its early days.
So, we see that some of the greatest minds of industry were behind the development of Ethereum. This was indeed a great team that brought a true revolution in a super centralized industry. Now, Ethereum is without any doubt the most versatile and largest blockchain project.
