Top 5 NFTs to Buy This Week (16 to 22 August)
Meet your Author
This is Charlie Chang – your new (trial) author for upcoming NFT projects. I recently started posting about upcoming NFT projects on Twitter and gained a bit of traction. I use social data metrics (Twitter followers and Discord members) to gauge how successful an upcoming project could be and I offer my own personal opinion. I update my spreadsheet every day and the numbers are to the best of my ability at the time of drafting. I make ~3 posts a day to keep readers updated on the progress of a project, how its launch went and whether or not I think a project is worthy to ‘ape’ into. I do not accept any paid promotion and all opinions are my own. My social handles are at the end of this article if you’re interested.
In real life – I’m a young Australian lawyer that just entered the industry. Please do not come to me with any legal questions. I am not that kind of lawyer.

I’m sure many of you have heard about the explosion of NFTs recently. With the likes of Crypto Punks, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Pudgy Penguins taking over Twitter and the crypto world by storm – there’s no doubt that there’s a lot of you out there wondering how you can find and be part of the next trend.
The world of NFTs is very very confusing. I’m here to try to make it a little less so. A few words of warning – NFT markets are extremely illiquid. This means that, unlike crypto, there is not always a constant and reliable stream of buyers and sellers. If you invest in the wrong NFT, you could end up in a position where there are no buyers – even if you want to sell. That effectively reduces your investment from your entry price to zero. In this sense, NFTs are a much riskier investment than even your worst bag of altcoins.
With that being said – let’s dive right in.
0n1 Force
- Mint Date: 18 August 2021 CEST
- Mint Time: TBA
- Mint Size: 7777
- Mint Price: 0.0777 ETH
- Twitter Following: 5162
- Discord Following: 5541
- Average Following: 5352
0n1 Force is an anime-inspired NFT project. As an anime fan, I think that the artwork is really amazing. The project also has a great following in the lead-up to its mint window (an average following of 5352 is extremely impressive). I’ve also visited the community’s Discord group and there is a high level of engagement with a lot of excited members for its release.
I think there is currently a gap in the NFT world for an anime-based artwork niche. Animates is the only other successful project that comes to mind and the art style is completely different. I will be participating in this sale.
Boneheads
- Mint Date: 16 August AEST
- Mint Time: TBA
- Mint Size: 10000
- Mint Price: 0.1 Eth
- Twitter Following: 4228
- Discord Following: 3871
- Average Following: 4050
There is a lot of hype behind this project and the mint date had been undisclosed for a long period of time. The dev team behind this project has been prioritizing members consistently and I think this is what differentiates a project that has a lot of flippers (people selling for a profit on OpenSea) and a community of holders (people invested in the project and holding for the long term).
In terms of the project itself, each minter receives a Bonehead NFT and an undisclosed amount of bone tokens. The bone tokens can be used at a later date to purchase further collectibles and accessories that can then be merged with their NFT to affect its rarity and price. Conceptually, this is a very interesting idea and it adds a lot of value to its community whilst promoting people to hold and accessorize.
Secret Society of Whales
- Mint Date: 16 August 2021 AEST
- Mint Time: 8:15pm – 8:45pm
- Mint Size: 10000
- Mint Price: 0.05ETH
- Twitter Following: 2027
- Discord Following: 3668
- Average Following: 2848
This is a new avatar project that has a fair amount of followers and hype leading up as well. Recently, there has been a lot of hype (maybe even too much) behind avatar projects as people scramble to try to find the next CryptoPunks, BAYC, and Pudgy Penguins.
The potential for these projects is huge – if they pop off and go viral you will see a lot of people fomo-ing in. Similarly, if the project doesn’t pop off you will see a large amount of people panic selling for a loss. This is definitely a more high-risk play. The key to success for all avatar projects is (1) cute/cool art; and (2) a strong community. I think this project has both of those – but whether or not it will turn into the ‘next big thing’ is completely up to luck.
LoomlockNFT
- Mint Date: TBA
- Mint Time: TBA
- Mint Size: TBA
- Mint Price: TBA
- Twitter Following: 4228
- Discord Following: 3154
- Average Following: 4174
The numbers for this project speak for itself. With no confirmed launch or release time, style of NFT, or price and size of mint – this project is still performing exceptionally well with a strong community. I would say that NFTs are 90% about the community. If you agree with this metric then the project should be something you’re interested in. I’ve visited their Discord and the community is extremely alive and excited for something that they have no idea about. This is very interesting to me. I can only imagine how much more hyped and pumped the community will grow to become once its road map and design become public.
On top of this, the project is backed and followed by a lot of the top influential NFT Twitter accounts. Never underestimate the impact NFT influencers have on the success of a project. Remember, the community is #1. If someone can help build that community, they are integral to its success. I think this project, having done very little, is already further along the track to success than the large majority of other projects that exist at the moment.
Slothz
- Mint Date: 20 August 2021
- Mint Time: TBA
- Mint Size: 9999
- Mint Price: 0.045 ETH
- Twitter Following: 2648
- Discord Following: 537
- Average Following: 1693
This is another upcoming avatar project – this time based on sloths. Not much information is available on this yet at the time writing – but I would be wary of the disparity between its Discord and Twitter numbers. I’ll be updating the numbers on this project as the days go by on Twitter – but if nothing significant changes then I would recommend staying away from this project (for now). There are multiple avatar projects that release every day and most of them fail. It’s important to not mint one avatar project just because you missed out on another – that is how you lose all of your money, permanently.
Artwork wise I think it’s pretty cute but cute isn’t enough. Let’s see how the numbers improve in the coming days.
