Scientific progress and breakthroughs are essential for the world. They come from years and years of government funded research and well documented processes and well executed plans.
The end of any research project is the publishing of a research paper, which basically summarises the research and chalks out the findings and solutions that came out of it. Publishing of these papers went something like this; the scientist documents their government funded research findings in a paper, submits it to a publication that further verify the findings and then resell it at a higher price back to the government.
This method of publishing research papers is a very counterintuitive system that proves to be expensive and sometimes ineffective. This is the problem statement that Orvium is trying to solve.
What is Orvium?
Orvium is introducing a new way of publishing research papers that is effective disruptive to the current format. It takes the power from the publishing houses and gives it back to the authors and scientists.
Using a combination of the blockchain, smart-contracts, decentralised storage solutions cloud computing and big data analytics, Orvium has built a platform for the easy verification, publication and dissemination of research information through research papers.
How Does it Work?
Orvium is an open source platform that uses the blockchain to publish and distribute research findings. It uses a variety of technologies, ranging from the blockchain to cloud computing to do the following;
- Instant verification of findings in the research paper and validation of data provided,
- Authors retain control over the how and where of the research papers
- Optimisation of publication and distribution cost
- Real time results of research and peer reviews
- Provision for public recognition to keystone projects.
The platform is essentially a social platform for scientists and researchers to publish and propagate their findings.
The Blockchain Aspect
All papers, research data and reviews of them are stored on the blockchain. Moving the publication process, from submission to publishing, to the blockchain it makes the entire process transparent and publically available hence reducing the risk of plagiarised content, verification of citations, etc.
Using smart contracts, scientists and reviewers are paid in the platform’s native token, ORV. All publishing related activities like submission, reviewing, payment for copyright licensing, etc lead to the exchange of the token.
Critical Information
The exact dates of the token generation event have not been disclosed but it is scheduled to happen sometime between July and August. The hard cap they have set for their TGE is $20,000,000 USD and Ethereum is the accepted cryptocurrency. The total number of tokens in circulation will be 379,000,000 ORVs.
The Verdict
Orvium is taking the research paper publication process and making it more scientist and researcher friendly. By using a clean cross-section of leading technologies in the world right now, the platform they are creating makes the whole process more cost efficient, transparent and easier which further makes the research’s findings more effective in society.
Orvium is the world’s first time blockchain is being used to make science transparent and free and we are very excited to see how this platform takes shape.
